The religion that Allah has approved is the religion of monotheism. He has preserved it by maintaining its foundations and constants through the righteous scholars.

Whereas previous nations distorted the messages of the prophets by introducing the principle of "intermediation" between Allah and creation, which led to the emergence of a priestly class. As the historian Wells and Sheikh Safar Al-Hawali explain, this class borrowed its organization from the Roman political structure, thereby solidifying its authority.

As for Islam, there is no priestly class. Rather, there is equality in servitude, and the best among people are the most pious, as stated in the Quran (Al-Hujurat/13, Al-Ahqaf/19). Islam is based on the elimination of intermediaries between the servants and Allah, considering them as polytheism, as Allah Almighty said: (And they worship other than Allah that which neither harms them nor benefits them, and they say, "These are our intercessors with Allah.")

The status of the jurists of Sharia and scholars is purely an academic rank, based on scholarly attainment, not a priestly one. They are conveyors of Allah's law and teachers, and they are not infallible. The infallible reference is Allah’s revelation: the Quran, the Sunnah, and the consensus of the Ummah. Titles such as "Faqih" (jurist), "Mufti" (issuer of legal opinions), and "Shaykh al-Islam" are designations to describe academic specialization and praise, and are not priestly or religious ranks divided by a specific classification.
