What is the ruling on discarding the hijab and uncovering the face outside the country in obedience to my mother, under the pretext of attracting attention?
It is not permissible for a woman to unveil, whether in disbelieving lands or Muslim lands. Rather, the is obligatory in front of non- men, whether they are Muslims or disbelievers, and its obligation is even stronger when it comes to disbelievers due to their lack of faith. Obedience to parents or others is not permissible when it involves doing what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden. Hijab is purer for the hearts of all, as Allah Almighty says: "And when you ask [his wives] for something, ask them from behind a partition. That is purer for your hearts and their hearts." Al-Ahzab/53, and His saying: "And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts." An-Nur/31, up to His saying: "and not expose their adornment except to their husbands or their fathers or their husbands' fathers." An-Nur/31. And the face is among the greatest adornments.
