During the daytime in , sexual intercourse and its lustful preludes are forbidden for spouses. Anything else is permissible, as long as there is no fear of arousal. Spouses are permitted to wear any lawful clothing they wish, while avoiding anything that might incite lust.
Whoever has intercourse with his wife during the daytime in Ramadan, intentionally, knowingly, and by choice, must perform both qada' (making up the day) and the sequential (expiation): first, freeing a slave; if unable, then fasting for two consecutive months; if unable, then feeding sixty poor people. The woman must make up the day if she was knowledgeable, intentional, and by choice, but there is a difference of opinion regarding the obligation of kaffarah upon her.
