Is sin lifted due to lack of intent in all cases, or are there exceptions? And what are those exceptions?

The Shariah texts indicate that sin is lifted from one who performs an unintentional act, unless he was negligent in taking the necessary precautions. However, error may still entail liability, such as in the destruction of property, because intentional and unintentional acts are treated equally when it comes to people's wealth.
