Did praying for the son's return to Syria cause his affairs to become difficult in France, and what is the solution to facilitate these matters, and is it advisable to pay an expiation (kaffarah)?

It is not permissible to obtain the nationality of a non-Muslim country except out of necessity. What befell the child is by Allah’s decree and destiny, so a believer must be content and submit to Allah's judgment and be patient with what has afflicted him. Let the child know that what he chose may not be good for him, in accordance with the Almighty’s saying: "And perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not." He must strive in obedience to Allah, for it brings good and repels evil, as the Almighty said: "And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect." The mother's supplication is not the cause of what happened, and if he is afflicted by the evil eye, he should perform Ruqyah on himself with the traditional supplications. There are no expiations upon the mother; rather, she should supplicate for his well-being and for his affairs to be eased.
