What is the opinion of Islamic law on the technique of Emotional Freedom?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a suggestive method combined with a specific type of tapping on certain points of the body, which are claimed to be energy centers, accompanied by repetitive phrases. The origin of this technique is religious, tracing back to Hindus and Buddhists.

There is no evidence or scientific proof for this matter. It is an innovation of polytheists, and its terminology aligns with their rituals.

Therefore, it is impermissible to practice this technique, whether for learning, teaching, or therapy, because using it for therapy falls under minor shirk (polytheism), and because it is a means of imitating disbelievers. Psychological responsiveness does not change the ruling; the predominant harm prevents it, just as intoxicants were forbidden despite having some benefits.

However, if the validity of these techniques is proven by precise scientific research, then there is no objection to benefiting from them after purifying them from the rituals of deviant faiths that have become attached to them.

Allah Almighty has enriched Muslims, making them needless of such matters, through acts of worship like prayer, fasting, remembrance (dhikr), and charity, which are causes for the expansion of chests, tranquility of souls, and serenity of hearts.

Many people embrace these ideas due to the anxiety and worry stemming from their distance from Allah's methodology. And whoever does righteous deeds, for him is a good life, security, and guidance.
