Is it permissible to appoint a person known for lying to distribute a portion of zakat funds?

There is no objection to a man appointing his son or wife as an agent to disburse Zakat. Similarly, the son may appoint someone he trusts to distribute it if his father has given him unrestricted permission. Al-Nawawi stated the permissibility of appointing an agent for Zakat disbursement. The Shafi'is held that the agent does not necessarily need to be upright, while the Hanbalis stipulated uprightness. If the agent betrays the trust and does not deliver the Zakat, the Zakat payer's obligation is not discharged. It is better for the Zakat payer to distribute it himself. As for dealing with a person known for lying, there is no objection, but he should be advised, enjoined to do good, and forbidden from evil.
