The answer

Authentic hadiths have been narrated concerning the virtues of Medina, among them the supplication of the Messenger for its people for blessings in their measure (mudd) and their scale (sa'), and that whoever dies therein will be a martyr or an intercessor for him on the Day of Resurrection. It is desirable to reside there due to the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Medina is better for them, if only they knew." As for burying the umbilical cord in Medina, no text has been reported regarding its legality, thus it is an unlawful innovation.
