The answer

Sponsoring an orphan is an act of charity (). If you designate a specific amount for it but it has not yet been paid, scholars differ on whether it becomes binding before the actual payment. The majority of them hold that it does not become binding until it is paid, and it is permissible to revoke it before then, though it is commendable to proceed with it. If you are no longer able to continue the sponsorship, there is no sin upon you for stopping it to meet your own needs. We hope that you will receive the full reward for the sponsorship due to your inability to complete it, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "And whoever intended to do a good deed but did not do it, Allah records it for him as a complete good deed."
