Does not asking about one's maternal cousin constitute severing ties of kinship if it causes her embarrassment or marital problems?

Scholars have differed regarding the obligation of maintaining ties with the maternal aunt's daughter (bint al-khal). The correct view is that it is not obligatory to maintain ties with her, and therefore, there is no sin in not inquiring about her.

However, according to the view that it is obligatory to maintain ties with her, this obligation is fulfilled by what is customarily considered maintaining ties and by any possible means. Nevertheless, this obligation is waived if it leads to marital problems, because averting harm takes precedence over acquiring benefits.
