Is it permissible to use donations for marketing a project, by allocating a portion of the project's profits or a portion of the customer's purchases to charity or donations for the needy, and advertising this?
It is permissible for a business owner to advertise that a portion of their profits will be allocated to those in need, for two reasons: First, to market the project and encourage people to purchase or participate in it with the intention of charity, provided that the buyer knows the real price and the amount being donated. Second, it is permissible to publicize charity if a person is safe from showing off and conceit, and to encourage others to do so. Allah Almighty says: (If you publicize your charities, it is well, but if you conceal them and give them to the poor, it is better for you). Displaying charity is permissible, and concealing it is better unless displaying it leads to a predominant benefit, such as people following suit.
