Is the statement that disbelief (kufr) only occurs through denial an offshoot of the Murji'ah's view?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Disbelief has various forms and is not limited to denial alone, contrary to what the Murji’ah claimed. Messengers were sent with proofs and miracles, and most disbelief stems from arrogance, denial, and obstinacy, as Allah Almighty said about Quraish: "For indeed, it is not you they deny, but it is the verses of Allah that the wrongdoers reject." Scholars have categorized disbelief into: disbelief of turning away, refusal and arrogance, denial, hypocrisy, and doubt. An example of this is the story of Abu Talib, who believed in the Prophet (peace be upon him) but did not submit with his tongue and actions, and thus remained a disbeliever.
