Seeking sacred knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim man and woman. It is preferable for a woman to learn from her family or husband. If that is not possible, then from another woman. If that is difficult, then it is permissible to learn from trustworthy, elderly men, provided there is no seclusion with them, that she wears the legal hijab, lowers her gaze, does not soften or melodize her voice, and avoids mixing with men in classrooms.
