How should a young man interact with women at university? Did the Messenger, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, avoid looking at women? And did all women in his era wear the khimar and refrain from speaking with men?

The current mixing (ikhtilat) in universities is forbidden and leads to corruption. One must be cautious about joining them unless there is a necessity. When there is a necessity, the Sharia (definition)'s guidelines must be observed: lowering the gaze, being careful to avoid private seclusion (khalwa (definition)), refraining from mixing that causes temptation (fitna), and not shaking hands with non-mahram (definition) women. One must also associate with righteous people and enjoin good. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, interacted with women within the bounds of Sharia when there was a need and when temptation was secure.
