What is the ruling on feeling moisture when wiping over a sock of medium thickness?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is permissible to wipe over socks (khuff) if they are thick and firm and can be walked in, according to many scholars. However, it is not permissible to wipe over transparent, thin socks according to most scholars. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen were of the opinion that it is not a condition for the sock to be thick. As for preventing water from reaching the foot, it is not a condition according to the majority of scholars, and this is the most preponderant view. A mere feeling of dampness does not affect the validity of wiping.
