Is it permissible to wear a wig at home only? Thank you.
Scholars have differed concerning wearing wigs (barooka). Some have absolutely prohibited it, some have absolutely permitted it, and some have provided a detailed explanation, which is the most accurate view. It is prohibited except out of necessity, such as to cover a defect, based on the words of Sheikh Al-Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy on him: "The wig (barooka) is forbidden, and it falls under hair extensions... However, if a woman has no hair on her head at all, or if she is bald, there is no harm in using a wig to cover this defect, because removing defects is permissible." Accordingly, there is no harm in wearing it for adornment for the husband within the home.
