What is the status of Tarawih prayer in the Qur'an and the Prophetic Sunnah, and did the Prophet (peace be upon him) pray it, and what do standing, bowing, and prostrating in prayer represent from a شرعي (Shar'i) perspective?

Tarawih prayer is a confirmed Sunnah from the Prophet, peace be upon him. Numerous fatwas have been issued regarding its rulings, virtues, number of rak'ahs, manner of performance, and the permissibility of performing it at home. Standing, bowing, and prostrating in prayer signifies worship of Allah Almighty and obedience to His command, and it is an indication of humility and submission to Allah, the Glorified and Exalted. The worshipper stands before his Lord, recites His words, then bows and prostrates in humility and submission. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "The closest a servant is to his Lord is when he is prostrating."
