What is the ruling on chatting on social media with a girl I do not know and whose being a girl I cannot guarantee?

There is no objection to a woman communicating with other women in matters that are beneficial, as long as it does not lead to neglecting an obligation or committing a forbidden act. No attention should be paid to the mere possibility of the other party being a man; however, if it becomes clear to her that it is a man, she must cut off communication with him. If the husband prevents his wife from communicating with women she does not know, she must obey him if there is a benefit in doing so or a fear of harm; otherwise, we advise him not to restrict her.
