How can a young man who has lost his job and has no money get married without resorting to borrowing?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If you find someone who accepts you as a husband, then proceed with marriage even if you are unable to bear its expenses, as long as you are in need of it. There is no blame upon you for proceeding with it. Scholars have mentioned the permissibility of marriage for one who is unable to have intercourse or provide maintenance if the woman knows and consents to it. Marriage is recommended for one whose soul yearns for it. If he cannot find the means for marriage, then it is better for him not to marry and to curb his desire through fasting. If it is not curbed, then he may marry. Some scholars have also indicated that there is no difference between one who is able to provide maintenance and one who is unable. The Prophet (peace be upon him) married a man who could only afford an iron ring. If you are unable to marry, then you must be patient, chaste, seek help through fasting, guard your gaze, and stay away from temptations.
