It appears that the aforementioned verses do not contain any Sharia violations, as the poet laments the state of a time when governance has become corrupt and standards have been overturned, and he wished for death out of fear of temptation (fitna), which is permissible in such cases. Furthermore, describing time (ad-dahr) as jesting does not fall under the prohibition of reviling time, as reporting on the state of time differs from finding fault with it. It seems the poet intended to clarify the condition of the people of that time. The permissibility of these verses is also supported by their extensive citation by many scholars.
