Was Uways al-Qarani's mother alive and Muslim when he came to Umar ibn al-Khattab from Yemen? And why did people come from Yemen to Medina, and was Yemen at that time a polytheistic land? And why did Uways refuse an offer to live in a certain place, choosing instead to live in seclusion?

Uways al-Qarani holds a great virtue, as it is narrated in Sahih Muslim that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, described him as a man who would come from Yemen, named Uways. He had leprosy, so he prayed to Allah, and Allah removed it except for a spot the size of a dinar. He was devoted to his mother, and the Prophet commanded seeking forgiveness from him.

Umar ibn al-Khattab asked him about his condition and his mother's, then requested him to seek forgiveness for him, and Uways sought forgiveness for him.

Uways preferred obscurity and disliked fame. He came to Kufa after Islam had already entered Yemen.
