Does reciting Surat Al-Ikhlas three times earn the reward of completing the Qur’an, and has this been authentically reported from the Salaf, and is it true what is circulated about reciting it thirty times on Laylat al-Qadr to gain the reward of completing the Qur’an ten times?

Scholars have differed regarding whether someone who recites Surat al-Ikhlas three times receives the reward of reciting the entire Qur’an. Some hold this view, while others do not. According to the view that it is equivalent to one-third of the Qur’an, reciting it three times would make its reward like reciting the entire Qur’an. Some scholars have said that the intention is that Allah has made the reward for some of His words multiplied, and not that reciting it three times is equal to reciting the entire Qur’an. It has not been authentically reported from the Salaf that they recited Surat al-Ikhlas three times with the intention of gaining the reward of reciting the entire Qur’an. As for reciting it thirty times on Laylat al-Qadr to receive the reward of reciting the Qur’an ten times, this might be based on the opinion that takes the hadith literally, and this is permissible in terms of offering good counsel and loving good. However, if the intention is that this is a Sunnah on this night, or that the Law-Giver specifically commanded it, then it is an innovation (bid‘ah).
