Which has a greater reward: completing the recitation of the Quran every four days along with repeating Surat Al-Ikhlas, or completing it every three days, also with repeating it?

Extensively reciting the Qur'an in the order of the Mushaf is preferable to repeatedly reciting Surat Al-Ikhlas. Jurists have stipulated that completing the recitation of the entire Qur'an (khatmah) during Tarawih prayers is better than repeatedly reciting Surat Al-Ikhlas. Some scholars have gone further, considering the preoccupation with repeating the surah as an innovation (bid'ah) because it was not practiced by the pious predecessors (Salaf). Sufyan disliked the repetition of Surat Al-Ikhlas, saying: "You are merely followers, so follow the predecessors, and nothing of this sort has reached us from them. The Qur'an was revealed to be read entirely, and nothing should be singled out over anything else." Malik disliked repeating it in a single rak'ah, saying: "This is among the newly invented matters that they have introduced, lest it be believed that the reward of one who recites the entire Qur'an is the same as the reward of one who recites 'Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad' three times." For although Surat Al-Ikhlas is equivalent to one-third of the Qur'an, it does not suffice for the rest of the Qur'an and what it contains of commands, prohibitions, and stories. People need the entire Qur'an, and the knowledge gained from reading the rest of the Qur'an cannot be obtained merely by reading this surah. Therefore, one who reads the entire Qur'an is better than one who reads it three times, due to the diversity of reward.
