Is Zakat due on money invested in stocks for four months?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Zakat is obligatory only upon reaching the nisab (minimum threshold) and the completion of a hawl (one lunar year). Regarding zakat on shares, there are previous details.

If the person who took the money is an agent (wakil) or an employee (ajir), then zakat is due on the owner of the money. However, if the person is a mudharib (partner in a profit-sharing venture), then the owner of the money must pay zakat on his capital along with his share of the profit, but he does not pay zakat on the mudharib's share.

Therefore, upon the completion of the hawl on the capital, it is combined with its profit, and the wage of the employee or the share of the mudharib is deducted. Zakat is then paid on the remaining amount if it reaches the nisab.
