What is the ruling on preventing conception after the first child due to the hardship of raising children or poor health?

If the purpose of preventing conception is temporary, for reasons such as breastfeeding a child or recovering one’s health, then there is no harm in it. However, if the prevention is permanent, it is not permissible except out of necessity, such as a confirmed danger to the mother, or if she can only give birth via surgical operation, or if she would suffer unbearable hardship. As for the usual hardship involved in childbirth and raising children, it does not permit permanent prevention.
