Is it permissible to break off an engagement to a young man of good character and religious commitment, despite having no feelings for him?

It is permissible to break off an engagement, especially if there is a need for it, but it is disliked without a need. If the suitor is a man of religion and good character, there should be no haste in breaking off the engagement, as feelings are subject to change. It is advised to perform the Istikhara prayer concerning the matter. If the marriage proceeds, then there is good in it; and if it does not, then Allah has diverted it from her. The fruit of Istikhara is entrusting the matter to Allah, so He may choose what is best.
