Is sodomy the same as anal penetration itself, or does it include the surrounding areas such as the thigh and so on?

Sodomy, in Islamic law, is the insertion of the glans (the tip of the penis) into the anus of a male. As for external touching of the anus, or inserting part of the glans, or inserting it into a female, these are not considered sodomy in Islamic law, but they are forbidden and fall under the words of Allah Almighty: "And those who guard their private parts Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors." The perpetrator of sodomy, in its legal sense, deserves to be killed. However, other forbidden acts do not entail the punishment of sodomy for their perpetrator.
