Do grandchildren inherit from their grandfather or grandmother if their paternal uncles and aunts or maternal uncles and aunts are alive?

The grandson does not inherit from his maternal grandparents, because he is from among the dhawu al-arham (relatives by blood or marriage) who do not inherit unless there are no ashab al-furud (sharers) or asabah (residuaries) present. As for the paternal side, the son's son inherits from his paternal grandfather and grandmother, provided there is no direct son of theirs. The son's daughter inherits under two conditions: the absence of a male son, and the absence of two or more daughters, unless there is a male relative who makes her an asabah (co-heir).
