As for a wife with a bad past, if she repents and is sincere in her repentance, it is better to keep her, especially if there is a child. However, if she does not repent and remains disobedient, and he is unable to convince her, there is no good in keeping her. Scholars have stated that it is preferable to divorce a woman in such a state.
