What is the ruling on acquiring forgotten government land for free through a relative who holds influence, and investing it in massive projects that serve the region, and is the money generated from that unlawful? And what is the ruling on intercession (wāsiṭah) if it includes benefit for others, and the ruling on exploiting one's position for personal gain?

If the land for which you sought your relative's intercession is rightfully yours, and if there is no injustice to anyone in that, then there is no harm in requesting it, nor in your relative's intercession for you, nor in what you gain from investing it.

However, if you are not entitled to it, then it is forbidden for you to resort to deception to acquire it, for Allah Almighty says: "And do not cooperate in sin and aggression." And whoever takes it unlawfully must return it to the responsible authority. As for what has been invested in it or gained from it in money, it is yours, but the owning authority has the right to confiscate it and fine you its rent.

It is not permissible for an employee to exploit his position for personal gain except within the limits explicitly or customarily authorized, due to the breach of trust involved. Public funds are more sacred than private funds, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, there are men who delve into the money of Allah without right, and for them is the Fire on the Day of Resurrection."
