What is the ruling on someone who believes the story that Uthman -may Allah be pleased with him- excluded Ali and Fatimah -may Allah be pleased with them- from his invitation to a meal due to poverty? And is he considered a disbeliever, and is he required to re-utter the Two Testimonies of Faith? And what is the ruling on someone who declares all the Companions to be disbelievers and speaks against them?

What fabricators circulate about Uthman inviting people to his food without Ali and Fatimah is falsehood and clear, baseless lies. Uthman was married to two of the Prophet's daughters, Ruqayyah and Umm Kulthum, so it is inconceivable that he would treat the Prophet's daughter and her husband in such a manner. Furthermore, his generosity and good character unequivocally disprove this lie. His relationship with Ali was one of love and brotherhood. Believing such falsehood is not disbelief in itself, but it is obligatory to respect the Prophet's companions and not disparage them. Whoever hates all the Companions and denigrates them is a disbeliever, because they are the bearers of the Sharia (definition), and hating them is hatred of the religion. Abusing some of them because of their companionship is disbelief because it belittles companionship and the Prophet. As for hating one of them for another reason, it is not considered disbelief.
