Is it permissible in Islamic law to keep an inheritance suspended or to refuse to distribute it according to Islamic law in the event of the death of both parents and the presence of many children, and what is the ruling if some of the heirs wish to take their lawful share?

The default rule is that the inheritance is distributed among the heirs after preparing the deceased, settling his debts, and fulfilling his bequests, as well as completing the procedures for identifying the heirs and the assets. If one of the heirs requests his right by implementing the distribution, it is not permissible to delay it. Whoever does so without a legitimate Sharia (definition)-compliant justification is sinful. It is permissible to delay the distribution if all heirs agree to it for a common benefit.
