The "Miskin" (needy) is one who has wealth or earnings insufficient to meet his needs and the needs of those he supports. The "Faqir" (poor) is one who has neither wealth nor earnings. As for the "Yatim" (orphan), he is one whose father died before he reached puberty. Sufficient funds from the endowment (waqf) are disbursed to these individuals to cover their essential needs, including food, drink, clothing, shelter, and marriage expenses if needed. Heirs have no share in the endowment unless they are among the poor, the needy, or the orphans, or unless the endower (waqif) explicitly designated them. Any remaining funds, after satisfying the needs of these beneficiaries, are returned to the heirs according to the endower's stipulation. As for the guardian (wasi), if he is in need, he may partake from the endowment in a reasonable manner. However, if he is wealthy, he is not permitted to take anything from the endowment.
