Is a patient with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) exempt from performing Salah (prayer) if it is extremely difficult for them and leads to a worsening of their condition, especially since the mental effort of prayer may exacerbate the illness? And are they exempted based on the principle of prohibiting prayer in a state of drowsiness and hardship?

Chronic fatigue syndrome is a health condition characterized by severe fatigue that does not disappear with rest, and it affects body systems and may cause physical and psychological symptoms. This syndrome does not excuse the patient from prayer as long as he is conscious; so, he prays standing, and if he is unable, then sitting, or on his side. If ablution is difficult for him, someone else should perform it for him, and if he does not find water, he should perform tayammum (definition) (dry ablution). He can combine prayers, either by advancing or delaying them, if performing them at their prescribed times becomes difficult for him. Prayer is an obligatory duty that does not fall away from the patient, no matter how severe his illness, and it is a connection between the servant and his Lord.
