What is incumbent upon a person who advised a man to divorce his wife, believing that this was permissible and helpful to him, and who is now regretful and repentant of his action?

If you advise a husband to divorce his wife, believing that this is the most beneficial course of action, then there is no sin upon you. However, one should not hasten to advise divorce, as it is not always the solution, and its benefit might be outweighed [by harm]. The absence of love does not necessitate divorce, for Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "Homes are not built on love alone." It is forbidden to incite a husband to divorce for a malicious purpose, such as causing separation between them.
