How can I honor and please my parents, especially since my father is quick to anger and I cannot deal with anyone who raises their voice, and his way of thinking contradicts mine? And how do I deal with their refusal to help my father in a lawful endeavor?

Filial piety is a great virtue, and parents have immense favor over their children. Therefore, it is obligatory to obey them and be patient with what emanates from them. This is indicated by the words of Allah the Almighty: (And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him through weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination) [Luqman: 14]. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, also said: (The pleasure of the Lord is in the pleasure of the father, and the displeasure of the Lord is in the displeasure of the father).

It is obligatory to obey them in quitting work, unless the children incur harm from such cessation, and provided that the work does not involve anything forbidden by Sharia. In that case, one can continue working while attempting to convince the parents. Ibn Taymiyyah stated: (A person is obligated to obey his parents in matters that do not involve disobedience [to Allah], even if they are disobedient [to Allah], and this is the apparent absolute statement of Ahmad. This applies to matters that benefit them and cause no harm. If it is difficult for him but does not harm him, then it is obligatory; otherwise, it is not).
