Do doubts and blasphemous thoughts that accompany a person due to a chemical imbalance in the brain constitute disbelief (kufr)? What is the ruling on this condition, and is the lack of healing and increased sorrow an indication of Allah's wrath, or is it predestined? Is one held accountable for their shortcomings in treating this illness, and is severe obsessive whispering (waswas) a sign of strong faith or weak faith?

There is no cure for obsessive thoughts except to turn away from them, ignore them, and pay no attention to them. These obsessive thoughts do not harm or affect the soundness of faith. Disliking these obsessive thoughts is evidence of sound faith and strong conviction. Striving to get rid of them is done by ignoring them and not dwelling on them. With Allah's help, the matter will be made easy. One must not allow Satan to whisper these thoughts, and perhaps this trial is for elevating one's ranks.
