Is it permissible for a woman to dye her eyelashes to beautify herself for her husband, and what is the ruling on dyeing them black?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
There is no harm in dyeing the eyelashes with kohl, mascara, or other substances, provided that it is free from harm and the woman does not appear with it in front of non- men. There is no objection to dyeing them black, as the basic principle is permissibility, and it is akin to kohl. It is necessary to remove any dye that prevents water from reaching the skin before performing ablution (wudu). One should ensure that the dyes are free from harm, due to the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm."
