What is the religious ruling and the punishment for a religious, observant, and devout young man who occasionally watches sexual films, despite his remorse and seeking forgiveness, and what is the way to get rid of this habit?

This young man should conceal his sin and repent to Allah with sincere repentance. He should ask Allah for success in lowering his gaze and be mindful that Allah is watching him. He should not be alone with the television, and he should overcome his desires by frequently reading books of encouragement and deterrence, and by making supplications. He should preserve his prayers in the mosque, seek righteous company, and occupy his time with what is beneficial. He is not to punish himself, nor is it permissible for anyone else to punish him except the ruler or his deputy. He is commanded not to disclose his sin to anyone.
