What is heedlessness linguistically and Islamically, who is the heedless person, how does heedlessness affect a Muslim's life, and what is its remedy?
Ghaflah (heedlessness) is the act of abandoning something or being unmindful of it. It is defined as heedlessness of obedience to Allah, which leads to shortcomings in fulfilling commands or falling into prohibitions. It is the root of all sins, for due to it, the heart hardens, Allah becomes displeased, and Satan gains dominance. Consequently, the servant procrastinates repentance, falls into major sins, and neglects acts of worship. To remedy it, it is recommended to seek forgiveness (Istighfar), engage in remembrance (Dhikr), send blessings upon the Prophet, recite the Qur’an, visit graves, cultivate awareness of Allah’s constant watchfulness, read books that encourage good deeds and warn against evil, and engage in daily self-accountability and striving for righteousness.
