The husband is not considered to be severing ties of kinship with his wife by preventing her from visiting her sister, because he has not prevented the sister from visiting her, nor has he prevented the wife from maintaining connection through means other than visiting, such as phone calls, gifts, and online communication. If communication occurs through these forms, the severance of ties is negated by custom, as the concept of maintaining ties and severing them is based on custom. The husband should not prevent his wife from visiting her sister except for a legitimate Shar'i reason, and the husband must be obeyed in this matter. The wife is not considered to be severing ties of kinship with her sister by not visiting her, in obedience to her husband, because maintaining connection is not exclusively tied to visiting.
