Is it permissible for a Muslim to own a golden pocket watch, while avoiding ostentation, and is it to be measured against golden dinars or against clothing?

Carrying a gold watch and placing it in the pocket to help one know the time is among the uses of gold forbidden to men, due to the extravagance involved and the breaking of the hearts of the poor. Therefore, it is not permissible for a man to carry a gold watch in his pocket, because he would not carry it except to use it, and this is forbidden, whether he intends to show off or not.
