Is it true what is stated in the books of the Ash'aris that Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah recanted his Salafi creed during his imprisonment in Egypt in the year 707 AH, and agreed with them on issues such as الاستواء (Allah's 'istiwa' over the Throne) and the speech of Allah?

What has been mentioned about Ibn Taymiyyah converting to the Ash'ari school of thought is incorrect. His books are replete with support for the creed of the Salaf, and not a single statement has been attributed to him indicating his conversion. Furthermore, his students who accompanied him after his return from Egypt did not show any influence of this alleged conversion in their methodology. Even his adversaries, such as Taqi al-Din al-Subki, did not mention this; rather, he continued to refute him on matters of creed even after his death.
