It is forbidden to sell carrion meat or to trade in it, with the exception of tanned hides. This is because an animal slaughtered for consumption is only permissible to eat and sell if it has been slaughtered according to Islamic law (dhakah shar'iyyah), meaning the slaughterer must be a Muslim or a person of the Book. If it is slaughtered by an idolater, an atheist, or an apostate, then the slaughtered animal is considered carrion. The scholars are in unanimous agreement that it is not permissible to sell carrion or any part of it.
