The basic principle for selling live animals like sheep and cattle is that they should be sold by sight or by descriptions that eliminate ignorance (jahalah) and ambiguity (gharar), and they do not require weighing. As for selling them by weight, there is no prohibition in it, as it does not involve any impediments to sale. Therefore, there is no objection to purchasing the sacrificial animal (udhiyah) by weight.
