What are the rulings and conditions for slaughtering a sheep or lamb for charity (sadaqah), and is it permissible for the donor to eat from it?

Slaughtering livestock as charity is a good deed. There is no need to inform the seller that the slaughter is for the poor, and there are no specific conditions regarding the type or color of the sheep. It is preferable for it to be fat and beneficial for the poor. There is no need to touch the sheep or say anything extra during the slaughter besides mentioning Allah's name (Tasmiyah) and uttering the Takbir, or "O Allah, accept it from me," and similar phrases. It is permissible to eat from the slaughtered animal unless it was a vow specifically for the poor, in which case it must all be distributed among them.
