How can one combine honoring one's parents and being kind to one's wife, when there are daily demands from the mother that conflict with the wife's right to her husband's time, and the mother claims that the wife is controlling her son when these demands are not met?

It is the duty of a wise husband to give every rightful person their due; he should not wrong his wife nor his mother. Disputes between a wife and her husband's mother are often caused by jealousy. The spouses should deal with this trial with wisdom and understanding. Obedience to parents is obligatory in matters that benefit them and do not harm the child. The wife has no right to prevent her husband from driving his sister. It is her right, however, to demand that he treat her kindly. The husband should try to convince his mother that driving his sister should be alternated between him and his brother to alleviate any awkwardness.
