What is the ruling on someone who drank alcohol for a period and then quit?

Whoever drank alcohol, then repented from it and regretted his action, Allah will forgive his sin and erase his transgression, as Allah Almighty says: "The repentance accepted by Allah is only for those who do evil in ignorance and then repent soon after." Everyone who disobeys Allah is ignorant, and whoever repents before death has repented "soon after." And from the vastness of Allah's mercy is that He replaces bad deeds with good deeds through sincere repentance, as Allah Almighty says: "Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous deeds; for those, Allah will change their evil deeds into good deeds." And Allah accepts the repentance of the wrongdoer by night and day until the sun rises from its west.
