Does a person of few words, who is shy, sin for rarely visiting his relatives and not asking about them? Is a short phone call sufficient instead of a visit? Does he sin for speaking little with his brother and parents after reconciliation?

Maintaining kinship ties is obligatory, and severing them is forbidden. This is achieved, by custom, through visits, communication, correspondence, and greetings. The minimum is to avoid abandoning or shunning. If refraining from visiting is considered a severance of ties, then the person who does so is sinful. Parents have a great right that goes beyond mere greetings and inquiries; it is obligatory to avoid harming them, to obey them in what is good, and to serve them if they are in need. A Muslim must strive against their own self and not succumb to shyness that prevents them from fulfilling their obligations.
