Is a master's degree holder's stipulation that her partner be educated, and her rejection of suitors who have not completed preparatory school, considered a challenge to God's will? Is marriage in a person's hands, or is it destiny? And what is the meaning of "marriage is one's lot and destiny"?

The fundamental principle in choosing a spouse is piety (deen) and character (khuluq). However, a girl may stipulate other permissible matters in addition to piety and character, such as compatibility in educational level. There is no harm in her rejecting suitors due to their low educational level. Nevertheless, educational compatibility is not a necessary condition for marital happiness if piety, good character, and mutual acceptance are present. One must show kindness to parents and engage with them gently and respectfully. Marriage, like all matters in the universe, occurs by Allah's decree. The servant must take the necessary means and rely upon Allah, and supplication (dua) is among the greatest of means.
